The Local Enterprise Office Galway hosted the Building The New spotlight event for Local Enterprise Week 2021 – the event focused on new businesses that have emerged because of the pandemic and current businesses that have used innovative ideas to increase sales and visibility through the pandemic.
Facilitator and speaker Damian Young (Commercial Manager; National Design Innovation Hub; Centre 4 Design) explored pivoting and innovating with:
- Dough Bros – Eugene Greaney - Founder - Restaurant which pivoted to DIY kits, collection and delivery.
- Gra Chocolates – Grainne Mullins – Founder - luxury, handmade and hand painted chocolates – the business grew out of COVID
- Micil Poitin – Pádraic Ó Griallais - Founder - using current equipment and knowledge to produce hand sanitiser instead of Gin as a response to community need
- Galmont Hotel – Stefan Lundstrom – General Manager - using innovative technology to provide professional conferences for their clients.
- Blackrock Beachwear – Louise Griffin - Founder - a new businesses idea that emerged from the popularity of sea swimming this year.
- Gourmet Tart Company – Michelle O’Donnell - Founder - Pivoted from a restaurant/take away to offering customised gift boxes to suit all occasions, from business gifts to corporate gifts and luxury ideas for clients, family and friends. Contents include their own products and locally sourced produce to include in the hampers.
- LEO Galway – Breda Fox – Head of Enterprise, Galway.
