Carlow Gears Up for Lightfest 2024 – A Festive Celebration for All Ages!

Lightfest is set to ignite the festive spirit this Saturday, 23rd November 2024, transforming the Carlow Town Hall Car Park into a magical winter wonderland. Carlow County Council invites families, friends, and visitors to join in a spectacular evening of fun, entertainment, and holiday cheer.

“Lightfest is not just an event; it’s an experience that brings our community together to celebrate the magic of Christmas,” said Cllr. Fintan Phelan, Mayor of Carlow Municipal District. “This year, we’ve gone all out to make it a memorable occasion for all. We can’t wait to see Carlow lit up with smiles and festive joy.”

This year’s Lightfest promises something special for everyone:

• A dazzling display of Christmas lights: Be there for the official lighting ceremony, casting a warm glow over Carlow Town.
• Fun for all ages: From a new mini funfair to festive food and craft stalls offering unique gifts and seasonal treats.
• An entertainment-packed lineup: Live music from Allie Sherlock and Monroe, dance performances by R.W.D., and DJ-hosted singalongs to get everyone in the holiday spirit.
• Santa’s grand arrival: Witness the magic as Santa Claus makes his special stop, capped off with an enchanting fireworks display.

“The response to Lightfest 2024 has been phenomenal,” added Kieran Comerford, Head of Economic Development & Enterprise and Event Coordinator. “We’ve worked hard to create an event that brings joy and excitement to families and visitors, and we’re thrilled to kick off the festive season in style.”

• 3:30 p.m. Gates Open (access via the Barrow Track, beside Carlow Rowing Club)
• 3:40 p.m. Carlow Ukulele Band
• 4:00 p.m. Monroe Live
• 4:50 p.m. R.W.D. presents Catch Me
• 5:00 p.m. Allie Sherlock Live
• 6:00 p.m. DJ Matt
• 6:10 p.m. Santa Arrives, Fireworks Show, and Christmas Lights Switch-On
• 6:30 p.m. Event Closes

Additional activities include stilt walkers, face painting, and special characters to delight children and adults alike.

Parking, Access, and Tickets

• Road closures will be in effect from 12 noon for Barrow Track, Cox’s Lane, Centaur Street, Haymarket, and Church Street. Carlow Town Park will close at 2:00 p.m.
• Parking is available outside the event area, and ticket-holders should ensure they cancel unused tickets via Eventbrite to allow others to attend.

Photography & Media 

• Carlow County Council will have a commissioned photographer for the event. Any photographer who wishes to take images from inside the event area on stage must request same in writing to us prior to the event on enterprise@carlowcoco.ie.

Santa will make special appearances to collect letters at:

• 3:00 p.m. Tullow
• 4:00 p.m. Bagenalstown
• 5:00 p.m. Carlow Town Hall Plaza
