Emer McVeety

About Emer:

Emer founded Laochra Academy with an aim to transform the school aged childcare experience. Emer is deeply committed to child-centered education, drawing from over a decade of experience as a primary school teacher and now as the founder of Laochra Academy. Armed with a Bachelor of Education from Coláiste Mhuire Marino Dublin and a Master's in Educational Management & Training from Dublin City University, she infuses her work with a profound understanding of curriculum development and after-school activities. Her journey began with a desire to transform the school-aged childcare experience in the Cavan region, driven by her unwavering passion for child development.

With a focus on prioritising child voice and holistic growth, Emer went on to publish an article based on her own action research (McVeety & Farren, 2019), demonstrating how child voice can be meaningfully incorporated into the classroom. Having taught internationally, Emer has also seen the power of collaboration between schools and after-school providers. Her team's dedication to fostering curiosity, creativity, and social interaction in activity-led environments has made Laochra Academy a hub of new ideas in the field of school aged childcare.
