Who should attend

This Start Your Own Business training course is designed for individuals considering starting a small business or those who have a business that is running less than 9 months. The course modules aim to introduce participants to entrepreneurship, self-employment, the legal aspects of setting up, tax & VAT obligations, basic financial management, market research, sales and the development of a business plan.

TRAINING OBJECTIVES & TOPICS COVERED


• Decipher if their idea is feasible
• Set realistic goals and targets
• Plan for success. Produce a business plan – template (training workbook) is provided in soft and hard copy
• Plan and conduct basic effective market research
• Gain a list of useful websites, telephone numbers and contacts
• Register the business with the appropriate places, e.g. companies office
• Understand difference between company and sole trader. Choose an appropriate business structure for their business idea
• Financial Management issues for start ups including costing and cashflow management
• Getting the price right
• Funding your business - list sources of finance and assistance available to start-up businesses – traditional and modern
• List non financial supports available
• Effective marketing and sales for start ups
• Emerging issues such as Going Green and how it could affect your business
• Understand tax obligations, deductible expenses, allowances and reliefs
• Intellectual property and introduction to legal protection of same
• GDPR and your business
• Be aware of safety legislation and minimum requirements - template provided.
