The Dublin City students will be competing against hundreds of other student entrepreneurs from around the country in Mullingar on the 8th May. The student enterprise programme is an enterprise and business initiative for first to sixth year students that supports them in the creation, establishment and running of a student enterprise or 'mini-company'.
Funded by the Department of Enterprise Trade and Employment (DETE), the programme is delivered by the 31 local enterprise offices in local authorities throughout the country. It has been running for over 24 years and has continued to grow since then.
The programme operates at local level through the LEO Dublin City. Participating schools presented their projects at the regional final to a panel of entrepreneurial judges; the LEO Dublin City committee; guest speakers and their fellow competitors.
The LEO Dublin City expressed thanks to the teachers involved in the programme for their hard work and commitment. They are an integral part to the programme and have shown true dedication to the support and development of the young entrepreneurs of this country, the team said.
Registration for next year’s programme will begin in September and students can enter the student enterprise programme individually or in groups but must register through a teacher and as part of a school within the Dublin City Council catchment area.
The experience offers a valuable exercise in teamwork and problem solving as well as an opportunity to network and present themselves and their businesses in a more public forum.
The student enterprise programme also offers the enterprise encounter programme for Leaving Certificate Applied and Leaving Certificate Vocational Programme students. The programme gives students a chance to experience entrepreneurship on a very personal level through meetings with successful business people.
