A programme for micro enterprises and SMEs who already have an established craft, design or artistic enterprise and wish to review and refresh their approach following the market disruption of recent years.

  • Facilitated by Eddie Shanahan, this programme will take participants through a review of their collections and focus on business development opportunities in terms of new product development and market engagement.

Training Course Outline

  • A review of participants current work, assessment of challenges and responses in light of current market trends. (Each participant will be required to bring a selection of their work to the first session).
  • How to create a strong brand and build loyalty.
  • Marketing (4 elements)

         o Research & development (including understanding market segments)
         o Routes to market
         o Pricing Strategy
         o Promotion strategy (incl digital)

  • New Product Development including design, sources of inspiration, building product suites (this to be an ongoing element at the start of each session x 3 sessions)
  • Understanding and leveraging the components of value – design, quality, craftsmanship, materials & price
  • Building confidence, presentation & story telling, creating events.
  • Wholesaling & retailing options including trading terms & conditions.
  • Exploring cross collaborations between participants
  • Final review of work output and possible ensuing exhibition at Leitrim Design House
  • Once you register your place each participant will be required to complete an Expression of Interest Form. This is to ensure that you meet the criteria required.

Dates & Venue:
All training takes place from 10.30am to 4.30pm in The Dock Arts Centre, Carrick on Shannon

• Wednesday 9th October (Program day)
• Wednesday 23rd October (Work presentation & review)
• Each day includes a 1 hour lunch break - A light lunch will be provided for attendees on the day.
• The final day includes a presentation of new work by each participant and consideration for inclusion in the Christmas offer by Leitrim Design House.

This course is open to everyone but if over-subscribed priority will be given to Leitrim based businesses. We anticipate a lot of interest in this training Programme so you are advised to register fast if you wish to secure a place.
