Longford Local Enterprise Offices Supports Businesses in Becoming Lean

Lean offers opportunity to make substantial improvements in productivity and profitability, with Longford LEO supporting business owner and managers in effectively embracing Lean methodologies.

A 2015 LEO Lean Pilot undertaken by 12 businesses found that all projects undertaken resulted in positive outcomes for the companies, increasing Output and Capacity from 10-100%, while annual cost savings ranged from €8,600 to €151,000. There was also found to be up to 100% capacity increase, with some businesses' profits increased by 100K.

What Are Objectives of Lean?

Lean Business Participants will gain the knowledge and skills to enable them undertake small Lean projects. These projects be helped by the Lean Programme firstly identifying issues and potential improvement areas. Lean will also provide continual support and advice for the implementation of suggested changes, all resulting in continuous cost reductions and improvements in capability and capacity to deliver for the business.

What’s Involved in Businesses Taking Part in Lean?

Lean involves an in-company assignment by an external Lean consultant who will introduce Lean principles and complete a cost-reduction project.

Assignments will be carried out over a 6-8 week period and will include 5.5 consultancy days with in-company visits to each business scheduled depending on each situation. Consultants must be approved by the Enterprise Ireland Lean Team.

After a suitable in-company project has been identified, a diagnosis of current practice and performance and key performance indicators will be established to achieve targeted business improvement measures based on a set of Lean tools and methodologies tailored to suit each client’s situation.

Who is the Lean Programme For?

Lean is aimed at business owners and managers and key staff members of any Longford businesses who wish to gain an introduction to Lean concepts and allow them to gain a practical understanding of Lean principles by undertaking a focused assignment with expert mentoring support.

What Costs are Involved?

The Lean Programme is heavily subsidised. The normal cost would be €5,000, however, by taking the Lean Programme with Longford LEO, Lean will cost your business just €250, with Longford LEO providing grant funding for the outstanding costs to a maximum of €4,750.
