Join changemakers Deborah Somorin and Siobhan Sweeney for an evening of conversation on bringing your full self to work, breaking down unconscious biases, poverty, parenting and raising awareness on how we must all step up.
Network Ireland is a progressive, dynamic organisation supporting the professional and personal development of women. About our Guest Speakers:
Deborah Somorin is a consultant and assistant manager in PwC’s People and Organisation consulting practice. She is also the founder of a not-for-profit called Empower the Family.
Deborah completed a degree in Accounting and Finance at DCU in 2014. She then went on to complete a Masters in Accounting in DCU in 2015 which helped earn her a place at PwC. She received two scholarships while at university to enable her to complete her studies. Deborah sits on the board of directors for Chartered Accountants Support, the Chartered Accountants Ireland Diversity and Inclusion Committee, and the RTÉ Youth Advisory Committee.
Empower the Family plan to open student accommodation, in Dublin, with onsite quality childcare for single parents between 18-23 attending university. This social enterprise will support Ireland’s commitment to accomplishing 10 of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
She won two JCI Dublin Ten Outstanding Young Persons awards in 2018, both in the Humanitarian and voluntary leadership category. In 2019, she was awarded the Inspiration Award by Chartered Accountants Ireland and a Women of the Year award presented by the Lord Mayor of Dublin, Nial Ring. Empower the Family was a finalist for the Social Entrepreneur Ireland Awards and the Women Mean Business Newstalk Female Social Entrepreneur award in 2018.
In her spare time, Deborah enjoys playing video games with her son Liam, reading books and writing articles on Diversity and Social Entrepreneurship as a contributing writer for Maker Mag - the first magazine for indie makers.
Siobhan Sweeney joined AIB in 2006 and has held a number of roles throughout the organisation including Contact Centre Manager, Strategy and Communications Lead and numerous complex transformational roles within the group. Siobhan moved to her currently role as Diversity & Inclusion Lead in January 2019, developing AIB’s Diversity & Inclusion strategy to further evolve mind sets into breaking down unconscious biases, raising awareness and delivering support initiatives across AIB.
Siobhan is a Qualified Financial Advisor (QFA) and currently undertaking an MSc in Work and Organisational Behaviour/ Psychology in DCU. She is also proud mam to Faith (9), Lois (8) and Byron (6).
