About Local Enterprise Office Mayo

Local Enterprise Office Mayo offers a range of complementary supports to entrepreneurs and budding entrepreneurs. The supports range from providing an initial "First Stop Shop" service where individuals can receive advice on the steps involved in setting up a business, to the provision of grants for feasibility studies, provision of financial support for the establishment of new businesses or expansion of existing ones and the provision of a range of soft supports such as training and mentoring.

The range of supports we offer are designed to assist businesses to grow stronger and increase employment by being able to provide targeted and appropriate assistance at each stage of their development.

Enterprise Support and Development Services


Local Enterprise Office Mayo provides the following services to eligible businesses already based in or hoping to establish in County Mayo:

  • Financial support for start-ups and general business development;
  • Training programmes on key areas including Start Your Own Business, Managing Your Finances & Marketing;
  • Mentoring supports;
  • Access to dedicated business networks;
  • Support for developing an e-commerce facility for your business;
  • Assistance with accessing the Micro Finance Ireland loan fund;
  • Progression supports for businesses with the potential to become Enterprise Ireland clients; 

Entrepreneurship Support Services


Local Enterprise Office Mayo works to promote a culture of entrepreneurship throughout the county. It does this through working with schools (via the Student Enterprise Programme) and through running Mayo's Best Young Entrepreneur competition, which offers a €50K prize fund to share amongst entrepreneurs from 18 to 35. 

There are also a series of national entrepreneurial programmes that are supported by Local Enterprise Office Mayo. In addition, LEO Mayo supports Network Mayo (female entrepreneur network) and Inc60 (the business network previously known as the Mayo Open Coffee Club).

Local Enterprise Office Mayo also supports a number of enterprise awards and competitions and is involved in a wide variety of other enterprise promoting activities.

Local Economic Development Services


The Local Enterprise Office Mayo acts as the focal point for additional emphasis from Mayo County Council on the needs of small business in the County. LEO Mayo will:

  • Develop and roll out a Local Enterprise Development Plan with significant input from the local authority;
  • Make an input to the development of the County Development Plan and develop partnerships with other relevant enterprise and economic agencies;
  • Promote and market Mayo as a location for investment;
  • Identify and develop projects & programmes that have the potential to support local business, employment and the local economy;
  • Assist with the development of appropriate enterprise infrastructure within Mayo, including assets owned by Mayo County Council;
  • Facilitate the roll out of one-off initiatives on behalf of Government.
