The Local Enterprise Office (LEO) has announced its commitment to advancing digital transformation in small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) through the implementation of a new strategic policy. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the Government’s White Paper, aiming to achieve 90% digital intensity across SMEs by 2030, enhancing their competitiveness and resilience in an increasingly digital marketplace.

As part of this strategic focus, 52 entrepreneurs from Wexford participated in the Digital 25 South Event held at The Foundry @ Google in Dublin on October 2nd. They joined 120 business leaders from Carlow, Kilkenny, and Waterford for a full day of interactive sessions designed to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies in enterprise. Organised by the Local Enterprise Office, this initiative aimed to equip businesses with the necessary tools and strategies to innovate, enhance operational efficiency, and scale through technology.

Following a welcome address from Vanessa Hartley, Head of Google Ireland, attendees engaged in a series of specialised workshops and training seminars. These sessions covered cutting-edge digital and AI tools aimed at improving productivity, expanding market reach, and driving sustainable growth.

Annette Rowsome, Senior Enterprise Development Officer at LEO Wexford, outlined the digital supports available to SMEs, including free consultancy services through the Digital for Business initiative. She also highlighted the Grow Digital voucher, a funding mechanism providing financial support of up to €5,000, covering 50% of eligible digitalisation costs.

Wexford-based business Groopeze, represented by founder Darragh O’Ciarba, played a key role in the event’s panel discussion led by Cera Ward, Managing Director of Large Customer Sales at Google. Their insights into leveraging digital platforms underscored the potential of technology to transform business models and drive regional economic growth.

This event is a critical component of LEO’s broader strategy to foster innovation, competitiveness, and digital readiness within the SME sector, ensuring businesses are equipped to thrive in the evolving global digital economy.
