Participants need to have completed the Food Starter Programme before attending this programme.


Objectives:
-     To provide participants with the tools required to start up successful food businesses, working to a standardised format as established by Bord Bia, LEO's and Musgrave Retail.
-     To give participants an in-depth knowledge of the tools to analyse the market, understand the consumer and routes to market.
-     To train participants on Core Technical issues including raising and managing funds for business, how to price food products, food safety and food labelling and packaging requirements.
-     To work with participants on growing sales for their product range through branding and pack design and identifying the routes to market suitable for the product range.

Contents:
Mentoring will be a significant aspect to this programme.  One mentor visit (approx. 1 hour) will take place for each participant after each module is delivered.  The course material is delivered in three modules and covers all of the aspects of researching, launching and growing a successful food business.

Module One:  Market Background and Understanding the Consumer:
-   Understanding consumers
-   Market background
-   Research and data
-   Marketing strategy and segmentation

Module Two:  Technical Issues:
-   Introduction to finance
-   Pricing
-   New product development
-   Food safety and food labelling
-   Packaging

Module Three:  Growing Sales:
-   Routes to market
-   Buyer meetings
-   Marketing plans
-   Promoting with confidence
-   Public relations

By the end of the programme participants will have all of the tools and knowledge necessary to launch and build a successful food business in Ireland and to start looking at the export market.
