This is an 8 Week Online programme being delivered 1 evening per week with the goal of supporting you to develop your idea into a business.

The LEO SYOB programme is designed for:

  • Anyone with a business idea they want to develop
  • Anyone looking at self-employment as a realistic career option
  • Anyone who has recently started a business

The programme will guide you through the various aspects of business and business planning. The objective is to assist you in assessing your idea, its viability and to decide if you should proceed or take a step back.

The purpose of this course is to equip participants with the theoretical knowledge and teach them to apply it in a practical way, to be prepared to start their own businesses.

  • Identify the necessary skills and traits for entrepreneurship
  • Learners will be able to understand the key steps in assessing a new business idea
  • They will have a clear picture of the financial aspects of business
  • They will understand the different company structures
  • They will know the key fundamentals of developing sales and marketing strategies
  • Realise the importance of social media in business
  • They will be able to produce financial projections for their business idea
  • Understand the basic principles of HR
  • Have the necessary tools to create a business plan
  • Be capable of carrying out market research and identifying a target customer
  • Have the understanding for the requirement to create a UPS or a clearly defined value proposition


The Programme will help participants who are considering or already starting a new business to explore the key areas of Legals Issues for Startups, Finance and Basic Bookkeeping, Pricing the Product or Service, Marketing & Promotion, Sales and Negotiation, Market Research and Business Planning.

We also explore what supports are available for the business through the Local Enterprise Office and how to access other forms of startup funds such as Microfinance Ireland.
