Local Enterprise Week SO2541: Using Google Analytics (GA4) on your Business Website

Workshop Aim:

This short workshop is designed to help you to gain value from your Google Analytics (GA4) account. It aims to help you to read and understand your standard GA4 reports, as well as set up more detailed reports that can add value to your data

Workshop Content:

  • Aim of engaging with Google Analytics
  • GA4 setup
  • Initial check - is it working?
  • Understanding GA4 terminology
  • Basic reports – users, event count, traffic origins, pages visited, etc.
  • What are key events?
  • UTM tracking codes
  • Additional non-standard reports – funnel explorations
  • How to periodically email reports to yourself
  • Additional resources - third-party online YouTube video tutorials


In summary, the workshop content will help you to use Google Analytics to get more from your website/digital marketing. Let's say you run organic social media posts plus a paid advert about a particular product over a week. You can then go into GA4 to see how many page visits your concentrated marketing campaign generated and how many of those visits actually ended up in a purchase. With this info, you can then make decisions on why some webpage visitors did not make a purchase - e.g. where did they fall off, is delivery of your product too expensive, does the page load too slowly, is there too much text, is it too hard to find the 'call to action' button, etc.

What you need to attend the Workshop:

  • A laptop or PC, as neither a mobile phone nor tablet has sufficient features for this training

By the end of this half-day training workshop, you will be able to:

  • Ensure GA4 is operational on your website and working correctly
  • Read and understand the standard reports available on GA4
  • Set up, read and understand additional, non-standard reports that add value to your business

Post-Workshop:

  • You will receive a follow-up, online 1-1 session with the Trainer to assist you in implementing GA4 on your website and in your business.
