Inspirational ‘National Women’s Enterprise Day’ Draws a Big Crowd

National Women’s Enterprise Day 2024 was celebrated in style on Thursday last (17th October) at Clermont House Rathnew, where over 100 female business owners gathered to mark the event.

The event was organised by the Local Enterprise Office (LEO) Wicklow and funded by the Government of Ireland in partnership with Enterprise Ireland and Local Authorities.

Vibeke Delahunt, Head of Enterprise at LEO Wicklow, opened proceedings and introduced Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council, Cllr. Paul O’Brien, and Emer O’Gorman, Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council, who both spoke about their support for women in business in the county.

Speaking at the event, Cathaoirleach of Wicklow County Council Cllr. Paul O’Brien said, “I am immensely proud to be standing here in support of this important day. All those in attendance are the heartbeat of Wicklow’s entrepreneurial ecosystem, and we are here to ensure you have every opportunity to grow and succeed”.

Chief Executive of Wicklow County Council Emer O’Gorman assured the assembled female entrepreneurs that “Wicklow County Council is here to support you every step of the way, and I believe that together, we can continue to create an environment where female entrepreneurs can thrive and lead the way for future generations”.

MC Margaret Hoctor facilitated a lively Q&A session, weaving in lessons from her own entrepreneurial journey after the guest speakers, Catherine Brady and Lyndsey Cavanagh told their stories of business and working life. Lyndsey Cavanagh, founded One Dame Lane in 2018.  One Dame Lane is a jewellery manufacturing company and shop, based in Greystones that is growing rapidly.  Lyndsey spoke of her early morning productivity routine and gave valuable tips on social media marketing.

Catherine Brady is co-owner of Brady’s Coffee, Wicklow Town. Catherine started this coffee roastery business in 2018 with her husband Craig, and has seen very impressive growth and US exports.  Catherine is LEO Wicklow’s local Ambassador for NWED 2024. Coming from a non-business background, Catherine reassured the audience that anyone can start a business once they learn the right skills and have passion and determination.

A broad range of industries were represented at the event from financial services to coaching, fashion and styling to retail. Delicious catering was provided by another local female entrepreneur, Thea Kinsella of Maidin Catering, Rathnew. The newly renovated Chapel and Conference Centre at Clermont House was packed and buzzing with enthusiasm and positivity.

The supports for women (and men) in business provided by LEO Wicklow were also highlighted.
