Over the past decade, the development of entrepreneurship in small/micro businesses is seen as a key driver of Ireland’s economic growth. The move from a dependency upon foreign direct investment towards indigenous enterprise has given both the Irish economy and its people the confidence to move forward utilising their own capabilities and expertise, and not be reliant upon the need for multinational organisations.
This expansion of entrepreneurial endeavour has given greater credence to the role of the entrepreneur within communities and has offered a greater range of ‘local heroes’ as role models. But throughout the past two decades, there has been an abundance of research to demonstrate that in reality it is only a small percentage of firms (who are growing quickly) that generate the majority of new jobs within an economy. It is now the challenge for LEO Tipperary to take existing small businesses and to help turn them into growth enterprises that maximise their potential. The challenges of growing a business are quite different to those that an entrepreneur faces when starting a business.
Local Enterprise Office Tipperary run a variety of specialised management development training programmes that will lead owner-managers of existing businesses through critical issues of growth and to help them develop a strategic plan that will take them to the next level.
